ZQU Overseas Teachers Donating for the Earthquake-hit Areas


On the afternoon of May 12, a powerful earthquake, measuring 8.0 magnitude stroke Sichuan Province in central China. The quake destroyed many buildings in the area, killing 40,075 people by 18:00 GMT, May 20, with another 30,000 missing and 247,000 injured.

Following the earthquake, our overseas teachers were quick to lend their  hands. Mrs. Norma Jean Krim from the US immediately responded to the disaster by offering condolences. She donated 1,000 yuan to help the quake victims. It was her second time to donate after the 5.12 earthquake.  “The bad news of the earthquake upsets me. It reminds me of the destructive 9.21 earthquake in Taiwan, 1999. Though the earthquake is ruthless, human being is full of love. I believe that every Chinese should give whatever they could to support relief efforts for the victims”, said Taiwanese teacher Sofia Fu who also donated 1,000 yuan. American teacher James Morgante has donated 500 yuan. And foreign teachers, Okuda Mikiko, Yagi Shijiro, Ray  Richardson, Paul Winning have also donated for the earthquake victims.

Altogether 3,000 yuan has been donated by our international teachers to help the quake-hit victims.

International students from Japan, US, and South Korea who are studying in Zhaoqing University also took part in the charity activities to donate for the needed held at the university.

Our international sister universities, overseas friends, former foreign  teachers have also offered concerns for the earthquake damage and condolences for the dead by emails and phone calls.
