On the afternoon of May 12, a powerful
earthquake, measuring 8.0 magnitude stroke Sichuan Province in
central China. The quake destroyed many buildings in the area,
killing 40,075 people by 18:00 GMT, May 20, with another 30,000
missing and 247,000 injured.
Following the earthquake, our overseas teachers were quick to
lend their hands. Mrs. Norma Jean Krim from the US
immediately responded to the disaster by offering condolences.
She donated 1,000 yuan to help the quake victims. It was her
second time to donate after the 5.12 earthquake. “The bad news
of the earthquake upsets me. It reminds me of the destructive
9.21 earthquake in Taiwan, 1999. Though the earthquake is
ruthless, human being is full of love. I believe that every
Chinese should give whatever they could to support relief
efforts for the victims”, said Taiwanese teacher Sofia Fu who
also donated 1,000 yuan. American teacher James Morgante has
donated 500 yuan. And foreign teachers, Okuda Mikiko, Yagi
Shijiro, Ray Richardson, Paul Winning have also donated
for the earthquake victims.
Altogether 3,000 yuan has been donated by our international
teachers to help the quake-hit victims.

studying in Zhaoqing University also took part in the charity
activities to donate for the needed held at the university.
